About
there's something about denyse...
Professionally, I am a self-taught watercolor artist who simply began doodling "a la coloring book" style in 2010. My paintings are my own unique - and deeply loving - view of the world we all live in.

My achievements with watercolor are innocent and solely attributed to the fact that I “just didn’t know any better.” As a result of that lack of training and instinct to bushwhack my own way, I have developed totally unique artistic solutions to the medium of watercolor. I build up pigment in tiny dots to achieve intense saturation and a joyful sense of lighting. Something never before seen with watercolor.
Personally, I am considered fearless. I have a brain full of the craziest ideas, an insatiable desire to explore the world and a drive that just won’t quit. By nature, I find the humor in everything and approach every situation with, what seems to be, an upside-down, inside-out perspective. Which on paper translates into happy works with a bright, bold sense of color!

I’m a gypsy at heart and travel the world. And I fall in love. EVERY time! There’s no simpler way to put it; paint is how my heart shows the places I love. The cherry on my artistic sundae is how my work connects others with me. Shared love becomes a shared experience. It’s so healing and joyful. And why my tagline is “Painting the World Happy!”
I’m self taught. I have no “technique” other than giving myself permission to figure out my own solutions. Which ironically turns out to be a never-before-seen watercolor application. I work with a very small brush and simply allow pigment to drop onto the paper to gently be absorbed. All without removing previously placed pigment. In this way, I build up saturation to achieve light and shading.
My greatest pride is that my work graces institutions dedicated to Children’s Healthcare. My son and I have first-hand experience in the anxiety, fear and depression of existing in a hospital and healthcare environment. I hear constantly from parents how seeing my work in those settings was calming, comforting and even made them smile. That is the space that gives the greatest meaning to “Painting the World Happy.”
